Texas Society for Public Health Education
Public health internships bridge classroom learning with real-world practice, helping students develop practical skills, explore career interests, and grow professionally. At the same time, organizations benefit from added capacity, fresh perspectives, and the opportunity to cultivate future public health professionals.
This workshop highlights the mutual benefits of internships from both student and employer perspectives, emphasizing mentorship, intentional learning experiences, and professional development. Drawing on lessons learned from the Substance Misuse and Violence Prevention (SMVP) unit of Student Life at Texas A&M University, participants will learn best practices for creating meaningful internship experiences, including setting clear goals, mentoring effectively, and designing growth-focused opportunities.
Through a collaborative, hands-on format and guided planning worksheet, participants will leave with practical tools and strategies to build impactful, well-structured internships that support both students and organizations.
