This month, we're excited to spotlight Stephen Brown! Learn more about what inspired him to serve on the TSOPHE Board, what he’s found most rewarding, and what he’s looking forward to for the future of public health in Texas below.

We asked, “What inspired you to serve on the TSOPHE Board?”

Stephen Brown: I was inspired to serve on the TSOPHE Board because TSOPHE is one of the few associations that truly focuses on local issues with realistic solutions. Much of my career has focused on educational approaches to public health issues. So, It aligns with my interests. Currently, I am passionate about preparing for the next generation. I brought eight undergraduate students to the last meeting and feel there could be ways to involve even more students.

“What has been the most rewarding aspect of serving as Board?” 

Stephen Brown: The most rewarding aspect has been how the student board members are involved in the committee’s work and can share their ideas. It’s also good to see the diversity of ideas for the frequent educational  opportunities. It’s also good to hear about some of the collaborations and advocacy work.

  “What are you most excited about for TSOPHE's future and its impact on public health in Texas?”  

Stephen Brown:  I am excited about the next conference. I hope to see even more students participating. I also think we could do more collaborations with non-profit organizations.
