Texas Health and Human Services Commission - The Health and Human Services Commission provides leadership and direction, and fosters the spirit of innovation needed to achieve an efficient and effective health and human services system for Texans. HHSC has oversight responsibilities for designated Health and Human Services agencies, and administers certain health and human services programs including the Texas Medicaid Program, Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Medicaid waste, fraud, and abuse investigations. Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) - SOPHE is an independent, international professional association made up of a diverse membership of health education professionals and students. The Society promotes healthy behaviors, healthy communities, and healthy environments through its membership, its network of local chapters, and its numerous partnerships with other organizations. With its primary focus on public health education, SOPHE provides leadership through a code of ethics, standard for professional preparation, research, and practice; professional development; and public outreach. National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC, Inc.) - NCHEC's mission is to improve the practice of health education and to serve the public and profession of health education by certifying health education specialists, promoting professional development, and strengthening professional preparation and practice. http://www.nchec.org
Eta Sigma Gamma – National Professional Health Education Honorary – The principal purpose of Eta Sigma Gamma is to elevate the standards, ideals, competence and ethics of professionally trained men and women in and for the Health Science discipline. Eta Sigma Gamma's objectives clarify that the principal purpose can be achieved by: stimulating scientific research; facilitating communication and discussion between individuals, agencies, and governmental jurisdictions though the exchange of practices and philosophies; motivating service and academic achievement; recognizing service and academic achievement; developing methods, materials and programs; and raising professional standards and ethics. Public Health Education Leadership Institute (PHELI) - The Public Health Education Leadership Institute is a collaborative project with several health education associations. Funding for this initiative was first provided to DHPE by CDC in 1997. DHPE contracted with St. Louis University School of Public Health to develop a one-year training curriculum. The training includes three on-site visits, substantial assigned reading throughout the year and a leadership project to be completed. The first class graduated in 1999. Directors of Health Promotion and Education (DHPE) – DHPE is an affiliate of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) and serves on four of its committees (Tobacco, HIV, School Health, and Injury Prevention). DHPE has formal relationships with 25 national organizations, coalitions and committees working on a wide range of public health issues. DHPE’s mission is to strengthen, promote, and enhance the professional practice of health promotion and public health education nationally and within State health departments. http://www.dhpe.org
